On Sunday 24th October, we celebrated the incredible achievement of local Billesdon resident, Laura Sugar, who won gold at the Tokyo Paralympics.

To celebrate her success, two gold plaques – one at The Coplow Centre and one at the Billesdon 'Telephone Box' Library (which has also been painted gold) – were unveiled with a number of Billesdon residents coming to watch.
Laura took gold in the Tokyo Paralympics women's kayak single 200m scoring a new Paralympic best time. As well as kayaking, Laura also plays hockey for Wales and reached the Paralympic finales in Rio 2016 in athletics before taking up the Para-canoe.

In an interview with BBC Wales, the champion spoke of her hopes in inspiring others: "if you want to do something and you believe you can do it, go for it.'
The gold plaque at The Coplow Centre can be found in the entry hall by the notice board (as pictured below) and the one at the Billesdon 'Telephone Box' Library is located further up Church Street by the old school.
